Many national issues in the field of public health and the environment require an international approach. RIVM looks beyond borders. We actively seek out collaboration with foreign partners in order to increase access to knowledge and to improve the quality of our research and policy advice.

We carry out international work in a European context. We also work with UN organisations, such as the World Health Organization (WHO), with various institutes in the USA and with the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).

Role of RIVM on the international stage

Several activities and projects from 2013 have been explained (see projects on the left).
RIVM’s international work has many aspects. RIVM works a great deal with and for the European Commission, including the JRC (Joint Research Centre). We also carry out work for European Agencies, such as the EFSA (European Food Safety Authority) and the ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control). RIVM also plays a leading role in the European Topic Centre for Air Pollution and Climate Change Mitigation (ETC/ACM). The infographic slide show above provides an idea of the diversity of the international activities, expertise fields and partnerships of our knowledge and research institute.
