Schools inspire schools

Along with the family, school is an obvious environment for promoting health and a healthy lifestyle among children. RIVM’s Centrum Gezond Leven (CGL, Centre for Healthy Living) is using ‘Schools inspire Schools’ to devote attention to the health activities that schools are enthusiastic about.

In 2013 37 schools submitted an application for financial support for their project as part of the programme #Jeugdimpuls. These are often partnerships between schools and other local organisations, such as municipal health services. For example, six schools – in collaboration with the South Gelderland municipal health service – launched ‘Overheerlijk Overblijven’. This is a project that makes children aware in a playful, fun way of the importance of a healthy diet by encouraging joint meals.

Children play on school playground

More active

Six schools in Venlo – in collaboration with the Municipality of Venlo – are making schoolyards suitable for activities. They are using concrete paint to paint games on the playground aimed at encouraging children to be more active in the schoolyard. The games are played during PE lessons and breaks. A total of 24 organisations have launched a Schools inspire Schools project. There are projects for primary schools, secondary schools and secondary vocational education.
